Qinertia 4 is a major update over Qinertia 3. This release comes with a completely redesigned geodesy engine among other new features.
Most improvements and new features are fully compatible between Qinertia 3 and Qinertia 4 and the upgrade process should be straight forward.
However, the new geodesy engine introduced in Qinertia 4 is much more advanced and requires some special attention.
If you open a Qinertia 3 project with Qinertia 4, you will not be able to re-open it in Qinertia 3 anymore.
New Geodesy
User Created Datum
Qinertia 4 should migrate automatically all datum and datum transformations created by a user in Qinertia 3.
If there are some datum or datum transformations to convert, Qinertia 4 should display a migration report as shown below:
This report details the geodesy migrated resources as well as their unique identifier (USER:XXXXXXX
) so you can easily find them in the Geodesy Manager or use them in CLI projects.
In Qinertia 4, manual definition of concatenated datum transformations has been discontinued, differing from the approach in Qinertia 3.
The new geodesy engine in Qinertia 4 intelligently recommends suitable concatenated datum transformations. There is no need no define these concatenation manually anymore!
You can save the Geodesy Migration report to a JSON file to keep track of the new USER identifiers.
Export Profiles
In Qinertia 3, users have the option to select the datum for expressing the navigation solution directly from the export configuration panel. However, Qinertia 4 introduces a significant change: all geodesy configurations are centralized in a single panel.
This means you now define the Coordinate Reference System (CRS) for the entire project at once, and all exported data will adhere to this CRS.
Due to these fundamental changes in configuration management, it is not feasible to directly migrate datum selection settings from Qinertia 3 to Qinertia 4. Therefore, any datum selections made in Qinertia 3's export profile will not be carried over and will be disregarded in Qinertia 4.
The screenshot below illustrates the specific configurations from Qinertia 3 that will not be retained in the transition to Qinertia 4.
New Plots & Data
Qinertia 4.0 introduces several new advanced GNSS plots, sky plots, SNR views and so on. If you open a project created in Qinertia 3, you might need to re-process the solution to create the missing data and benefit from these new displays.
